Project Description

The crane on a bulk carrier was badly damaged by fire.

That left our customer (and their insurer) asking whether the crane pedestal was still serviceable and what might need replacing or reworking.

With the Leica LaserTracker AT960 LR, those questions can be answered very quickly.

Technical Requirements

The brief here was simple.

Are the pedestal and the slewing-ring landing surface (the flange) still technically sound? Or has the whole assembly suffered to the point where individual parts (or the entire pedestal) need replacing?

Work Performed

Measuring the squareness of the crane pedestal to the ship’s deck.
Measuring the straightness of the pedestal itself.
Checking the pedestal for twist.
Measuring the ovality and flatness of the slewing-ring landing surface at the top of the crane pedestal.

Machines Used

LaserTracker AT960 LR

The AT960 LR can do everything except the housework. That's nonsense, of course. But three-dimensional laser measurement at ranges up to 80 m (that's up to 160 m from a single setup) in six degrees of freedom, including laser scanning and measuring built-in or hidden points, does rather beg the question of what it can't do
