Project Description

For a customer in the oil and gas sector, the lower half of an engine casing was surveyed by laser during the component’s overhaul.

The questions after many years in service: how does the axis of the main bearing pockets sit in relation to the casing? Has the casing deformed, twisted or bent?

Technical Requirements

Capturing the measurement points may look trivial at first, but as so often the devil is in the detail. A survey like this isn’t only about execution. It’s above all about interpretation. The measured points have to be related to one another and read as a whole in order to identify misalignment, deformation and twist.
We’re not satisfied with a quick measurement. We always keep the full picture in view so we can hand over the best possible information.

Work Performed

  • Three-dimensional laser measurement by probing:
    • engine casing
    • main bearing pockets
    • split line
    • sealing groove
  • Evaluation of the results and delivery of the data to the customer.
