Project Description

During docking, the bearings of this container vessel’s propulsion line ran at severely elevated temperatures.

A laser survey of the line revealed the cause: the slope at the aft stern tube bearing had already been set incorrectly when the ship was built.

Technical Requirements

The particular challenge was that none of this work had been scheduled for the docking. The vessel had no time for extensive corrections involving the delivery of new bushes, so we had to work with what was on board.

Together with the manufacturers of the gearbox and coupling, and using the newbuild documentation for the propulsion line, we established a line that came close to the technically correct alignment, including the slope at the aft stern tube.

Work Performed

  • Laser survey of the propulsion line from the aft stern tube to the gearbox flange.
  • Correction of the alignment without replacing the existing bushes and bearings.
  • Re-boring the aft stern tube bush to the new alignment.
