On a cruise ship newbuild, the fender bars on the two side doors to port and starboard needed a final touch after the yard had fitted them: the upper and lower chamfers were still missing.

The particular challenges here were the difficult access to the side doors, the unusual position of the machine during machining and the specific angle of the chamfers.
Because the main spindle cannot simply be tilted in this orientation, a special fixture had to be manufactured to achieve the required angle.
Mounting and repositioning called for close cooperation with the yard’s crane operator.
Work Performed
- Manufacturing a special fixture for the main spindles at the required angle in our own workshop.
- Mounting the machine vertically using an adapter plate to bridge the steps in the ship’s outer hull.
- The base plate also simplified mounting and aligning the machine.
- Milling the upper and lower chamfers at the defined angle.
